Covid-19 Pandemic Could Soon End, Says President Jokowi

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo mentioned the possibility that the government will announce the end of the Covid-19 pandemic. Jokowi's statement was made in contrast with his previous statement saying that he would not rush in declaring such as situation.

"The pandemic is certainly dying down, and maybe soon we will declare the end of the pandemic," said the President in launching the exclusive partnership movement for Micro, Small, Medium Enterprises on Monday, October 3, 2022. 

Jokowi reminded the people that the economy has not fully recovered and may worses because of the war that broke in Europe between Russia and Ukraine. 

"Uncertainty is very high, each and every country is in a very difficult position right now, even developed countries are in a very difficult position," Jokowi explained. 

The announcement comes after the World Health Organization (WHO) director general, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said that the global community is heading towards an end to the pandemic. United States President Joe Biden was also one of the first world leaders who declared the end of the Covid-19 pandemic in the U.S.
