NasDem Officially Endorses Anies Baswedan in 2024 Presidential Election

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan has officially been nominated by the NasDem Party as its candidate in the 2024 presidential election. The party chair Surya Paloh made the announcement today, October 3, 2022.

Anies whose office term will end this month was previously among other top contenders, including the Indonesian Military Commander Andika Perkasa and Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo.

“Why Anies? The answer is, why not the best?” said Surya Paloh in his speech at NasDem Tower, Central Jakarta, Monday, October 3, 2022.

Surya started his speech by explaining the beliefs and principles of his party after receiving various inputs and suggestions and having contemplation prior to the decision to endorse Anies.

Surya said Anies is a figure who is capable of continuing the country’s development. He also assessed that Anies' principles and perspectives are in line with what the party believed.

“This is why NasDem finally chose Anies Baswedan. We think about the future of the nation. Inshallah, if Anies is elected as the President, he will lead this nation into a more dignified nation and will be capable of shaping this nation’s real character,” he added.

Responding to Surya Paloh's statement, Anies said he is willing to become a presidential candidate and is ready to collaborate with Nasdem. “When Bang Surya and Nasdem asked me to go side by side, to fix incomplete things, we humbly accept it. We are ready to answer the challenge,” he said.
