TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil stated that Jakarta needs more green open space. A city, he opined, should not only function as a drop-off point for people to work.
“Jakartans are sometimes too indoor activity oriented. This is my criticism,” he said on the Supermentor-27 stage on Sunday, October 2, 2022.
The Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia (FPCI) held the 27th Supermentor which focused on discussing the farewell ceremony for Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan whose term of office will end this month. The event took place at the Ballroom of Djakarta Theater XXI, Central Jakarta.
Other than Kamil, Anies and Bogor Mayor Bima Arya attended the event as the speakers.
Kang Emil, as Kamil is familiarly called, argued that providing public space is necessary for residents to express themselves.
Regardless of their wealth status, people can gather in such a democratic space. This is what ignited the Citayam Fashion Week in Dukuh Atas, Central Jakarta.
From this phenomenon, Kang Emil said a city should not only perceive as an economic engine. “That's why outdoor spaces must be designed. That's what I give inspiration to various places, such as the Bogor City Square and others,” he added.
He claimed he supported whoever would be the presidential candidate for the 2024 general elections. “If the fate is in Pak Anies, we support Pak Anies as president,” he said, followed by applause from the attendees.
Governor Ridwan Kamil also called on all people to support any presidential candidate and fight against division due to different religions, parties, or presidential choices.
