TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia or KAI started the trial run of the face recognition system at the boarding gate of Bandung Station on Wednesday, September 28, 2022.
The new facility will ease passengers taking long-distance trains to pass the checking without showing documents, such as physical boarding pass, e-boarding pass, ID card, and vaccination documents.
This system was targeted to be implemented at all long-distance train stations starting in early 2023. "This trial run of face recognition boarding at Bandung Station is aimed at ensuring and improving the latest innovative services from KAI," said the company's spokesperson Joni Martinus in a statement, Friday, September 30, 2022.
To use this facility, a passenger must conduct a one-time registration at the beginning which will be valid forever. "The registration is done by scanning the e-KTP on the e-KTP Reader and then sticking the right or left index finger on the scanner," said Joni.
Passengers will not need to print the boarding pass anymore should they have already made a registration. "Just 1 second. This will greatly facilitate customers and streamline the queue for the boarding process," said Joni.
This service is already available at the North Hall of Bandung Station. Meanwhile, the registration can be done at Customer Service, Vending Machine, or Check-in Counter equipped with the e-KTP reader. Those lacking e-KTP can carry out manual boarding pass service at Bandung station.
Joni also said the company would develop an online registration system via the KAI Access application. "KAI has already had good data security management and regularly improves the data security system," he said.
