TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Democratic Party on Thursday announced that it has stripped Lukas Enembe from the position as the Party’s Papua Province Head representative (DPD) after the governor was named as a suspect by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) over an Rp1 billion corruption charge.
Democratic Party chairperson Agus “AHY” Harimurti Yudhoyono acknowledged and supports the current legal proceedings that Lukas must adhere to.
“We support Pak Lukas' legal efforts to seek justice. During the process, Pak Lukas is unable to carry out his duties and is inactive," said AHY at the Democratic Party headquarters on September 29.
Despite the support for the legal process, AHY called for the law to be upheld fairly and set aside politicization in the Papua governor’s legal journey.
AHY emphasized that the Party he leads respects and upholds the rule of law, including the presumption of innocence. Therefore, he said that if Lukas is not proven guilty, then Lukas could still be reappointed as Democratic Party DPD Chair in Papua.
