TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno in a weekly briefing on Wednesday mentioned that Lombok will be hosting the Ironman 70.3 – which is a long-distance triathlon event that was postponed for 2 years due to the pandemic – on October 8.

“If we look at it, Ironman is a very well-known brand for triathlon. Ironman has a reputation for organizing professionalism," said Sandiaga Uno in The Weekly Briefing on Wednesday, September 28.

The stage for Ironman 70.3 is set at three locations within the renowned tourism site East Nusa Tenggara, across West Lombok, Mataram City, and Central Lombok. Athletes will cover a total distance of 113.1 kilometers (70.3 miles) with 1.9 kilometers for swimming, cycling a total distance of 90 kilometers, and a marathon covering 21 kilometers.

The Ironman 70.3 is said to attract participants from 33 countries with most coming from Malaysia, Japan, Singapore, and Australia.

"What was supposed to be held in July 2020, was postponed to July 2021, and then was rescheduled again in July 2022, can finally actually take place on October 8, 2022." Sandiaga Uno asserted.
