TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan inaugurated four Net Zero Schools 2022 at SDN Ragunan 08 state elementary school in South Jakarta on Wednesday, September 28, 2022. This is part of efforts to advance education in modern times.
“Today, Jakarta is officially the first region to have net zero schools,” said Anies in South Jakarta today.
A net zero school is a school building that produces low carbon emissions, uses energy efficiently, and most of its energy come from renewable sources.
Anies explained that the schools carry the concept of a green building by optimizing natural ventilation and natural lighting so as to reduce carbon gas emissions due to the use of electricity.
Nahdiana, the head of the Jakarta Education Agency, also said that the program was aimed at realizing a complete and quality education that began with the physical construction of public schools in the capital.
The construction of the four net zero schools was financed by the Regional Budget or APBD totaling Rp126 billion. They are the pilot schools to reach Jakarta's target of becoming a zero-emission city by 2050.
The four schools are SD Negeri Ragunan 08 state elementary school in Pasar Minggu, SD Negeri Duren Sawit 14 state elementary school in Duren Sawit, SD Negeri Grogol Selatan 09 state elementary school in Kebayoran, and SMA 96 senior high school in Cengkareng.
They are the first education institutions to have received Greenship Net Zero Certificates awarded by the Green Building Council Indonesia.
