TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs and Investments Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan on Tuesday said that he is unaware whether the national program to convert traditional stoves to induction or electric stoves.
“I’m not updated about that too well. Maybe something will be found and in the meantime [the program] will be postponed. We surely do not want to rush things that will only later turn into problems,” said the Minister in Sarinah, Central Jakarta, on September 27.
State-owned electricity firm PLN previously announced that it has canceled the LPG-based stove to an electrical stove conversion program.
PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo said the cancellation of the program was is heavily based on the economic recovery people are experiencing after the Covid-19 pandemic caused the economy to hit rock bottom.
“PLN decided to cancel the program for switching to electric stoves. PLN is here to provide comfort in the community through reliable electricity supply," said Darmawan in a written statement on Tuesday, September 27.
He also ensures that there will be no increase in electricity rates. According to him, the government has decided to determine the electricity tariff through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM). The decision not to increase electricity tariffs aims to maintain an increase in people's purchasing power and maintain economic stability.
