TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs and Investments Luhut Pandjaitan on Tuesday said Indonesia is currently one of the countries in the world with the strongest economy. However, he noted that people must remain unified to reduce the effects of the global crisis.
“Like it or not, it will affect Indonesia. We should be grateful to this day we are able to suppress this situation, but the question remains for how long?” said the Minister on the National Maritime Day on September 27.
He recalled the moment he was in New York and met with economists there. The world is predicted to face a very crucial situation, namely the global crisis or the 'Perfect Storm' added with The Fed likely to raise interest rates to 4.75 until the end of the year. Luhut said it would have an impact on the Indonesian economy.
Although Indonesia's inflation is at the level of 4.9, with core inflation at 2.8. However, according to him, the food situation in the country remains to be a problem.
Although the observers he met in New York have given their appreciation of how Indonesia handles its economic situation, he believes the situation in Ukraine still needs to be watched out for as it has a huge impact on food and energy in the country. Add the geopolitical tension between China and Taiwan to the mix.
However, Luhut Pandjaitan believes the Indonesian population and government will unite in facing the current crises.
