TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Trisakti University criminal law lecturer Azmi Syahputra on Monday urged the Supreme Court (MA) leader to commence a structural reform after the arrest of supreme court judge Sudrajad Dimyati in a Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) sting operation.
“The Supreme Court Chief Justice must be an example of commendable judge behavior and implement an internal reform within the MA. No more speeches filled with advice. But by putting forth ethics, courtesy, self-reflection, knowledge elevation, and high-quality verdicts,” Azmi wrote in a statement on September 26.
Azmi said that the current Supreme Court Chief Justice, Syarifuddin, should be a positive example for his subordinates.
With the arrest of one of the Supreme Court Justices and several MA employees by the KPK on Thursday, September 22, Azmi assessed that the Supreme Court had been mired in the mud of corruption, and the judiciary was undermined by insiders until it became a collective crime.
"This shows that the Supreme Court Chief Justice has failed miserably in fostering judges and judicial apparatus properly because he should be able to implement a clean, honest and fair judiciary," said Azmi.
