KPK Summons Again Papua Governor Lukas Enembe Over Corruption Case

26 September 2022 08:00 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has issued yet another summons for Papua Governor Lukas Enembe who is embroiled in an alleged Rp1 billion gratification criminal case. The summons scheduled for Monday, September 26, will see the governor interrogated as a suspect.

“The summons as a suspect has been sent by a team of investigators,” said the KPK spokesperson Ali Fikri on September 25.

This is officially the second time the antigraft agency had officially called in the governor as the first came on September 12 when Enembe was summoned for a questioning session at the Papua Police Mobile Brigade Headquarters (Mako Brimob), when at the time Enembe failed to be present due to illness.

Ali Fikri said the agency hopes Lukas Enembe will respectfully answer the summons by being present at the KPK main headquarters in Jakarta. He insists that this is a good opportunity for the governor to defend himself amidst corruption allegations.

However, signs that the Papua governor will fail to be present in this questioning seem to be strong as his lawyer, Stefanus Roy Rening, claims his client is suffering from a stroke.

“Looking at his condition, [Lukas] will not make it for the Monday meeting,” said Rening at the KPK headquarters on September 23.
