Presidential Palace Denies Rumor of Jokowi Avoiding Mass Protest in Jakarta

24 September 2022 00:06 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo was working at the Bogor Presidential Palace during the mass protest staged by religious-based mass organization PA 212 in Jakarta. A State Palace representative denied rumors that the President was in Bogor to avoid the protest.

"Since last week, even ten days before, the President was already scheduled to be in Bogor today," said Head of the Presidential Secretariat Heru Budi Hartono on Friday, September 23, 2022.

"Fridays are usually quite busy weekends in Bogor," Heru added.

Islamic mass organizations such as the GNPR, staged a demonstration to protest against increased prices of fuel, increase in prices of goods, and demanding proper law enforcement.

Previously on September 6, 2022, a similar protest was staged by the Indonesian Workers Union Confederation (KSPI). At the time the President was also working from his office in Bogor although the protest was not staged during the weekends.
