TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan has included provisions on bicycle lanes in the capital city's spatial planning regulations. In the future, the construction of bike lanes must be integrated with public transportation.
"Bicycle lanes must at the very least pay attention to the provisions of being integrated with mass public transportation," reads Governor Regulation No.31/2022.
Governor Regulation No.31/2022 regulates the Detailed Spatial Planning of the Jakarta Planning Area, which Anies signed on June 27 this year. The rule replaces the Jakarta Regional Regulation No.1/2014 on Spatial Planning and Zoning Regulations.
In addition to integrating bike lanes with public transportation, there are four other provisions. The first one states that bike lanes must meet aspects of security, safety, and comfort for the users.
The second provision concerns guaranteeing the safety of bicycle lane users at intersections and when approaching traffic roads. This is done by arranging special lanes and providing traffic signs.
The third provision states that bicycle lanes must be "continuous, uninterrupted, flat and safe, and do not slope when they approach motorized vehicle access."
The fourth is the provision of bicycle parking spaces and supporting infrastructure in certain locations such as mass transit hubs/points, office areas, service trade districts, as well as public and social facilities.
"It must not be further than a radius of 100 meters from the transit point."
