TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The SOEs Ministry inaugurated PLN as a holding company with four subsidiaries—or sub-holding—as part of the company's restructuring, today, September 21. The launching event was held in Jakarta.
"This will answer President Jokowi's wish for our energy sector to carry out energy transition faster in order to serve and provide convenience to the people," SOE Minister Erick Thohir said.
Erick emphasized that the restructuring of PLN will also initiate the transition from a company that relies on fossil-based energy, imports, and burdens the state budget, into one that utilizes clean energy from new and renewable sources.
With this change, PLN as the main holding will oversee four sub-holdings. The first is PLN Energi Primer Indonesia, which is tasked to procure coal, gas, and fuel as a source of energy for electricity generation. It is also tasked with ensuring primary energy supply sources from new, renewable sources. The second sub-holding firm is engaged in the power plants business, PLN Indonesia Power.
The third is PLN Nusantara Power, which by the time of its formation will immediately become the largest generation company in Southeast Asia—ready to compete in the global arena. The fourth sub-holding is engaged in business development and innovation outside electricity for future needs named PLN ICON Plus.
