TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Police's General Crimes Investigation Directorate (Ditreskrimum) yesterday arrested two people on suspicion of trafficking children as commercial sex workers (PSK) in West Jakarta. The suspects are EMT, a 41-year-old woman, and a young man named RR, 17, who are now under police custody for investigation purposes.
"The arrest was made on Monday, September 19, 2022, around 22:00 in Kalideres, West Jakarta," Jakarta Metro Police's PR chief, Sr. Comr. Endra Zulpan said here on Tuesday, September 20.
According to Zulpan, EMT and RR offered sex work to their victims, promising they would make lots of money. Instead, they took the money in return for the victims' rent and food.
They prohibit the victims from quitting and leaving, saying they still owe EMT and RR a lot of money.
The victims managed to escape. Their parents then reported what happened to the police. The report was received by Polda Metro Jaya on June 14, 2022.
"The father of a victim said that his child had been sold by the suspects in West Jakarta," Zulpan said.
EMT and RR are charged with violating several articles of Law no.35/2014 on Child Protection and Law no.12/2022 on the Crime of Sexual Violence (TPKS).
