TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has issued an instruction to accelerate the use of electric vehicles as official operational vehicles both in the central and regional governments. This Presidential Instruction No. 7 of 2022 was inked on Tuesday, September 13, 2022, following the surge in fuel prices.
“The use of battery electric vehicles as the official vehicle for central and regional government offices,” as read in the title of the instruction, which is addressed to all ministers, institutional leaders, and regional heads throughout the country.
It is also noted that the goal is to accelerate the use of battery-based vehicles.
There are three key instructions: design the regulation, set the budgets, and procure electric vehicles to replace fuel-powered vehicles.
The use of electric vehicles is one of the government's efforts to reduce the consumption of fuel. This has been carried out since 2019 with the issuance of the Presidential Regulation No. 55 of 2019 on the acceleration of the battery-based vehicle program.
Jokowi also planned to mobilize electric vehicles as the main vehicles for officials during the G20 Summit in Bali on November 15-16, 2022.
