TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The House of Representatives' Honorary Court of the Council (MKD) stated that the celebration of Puan Maharani's birthday during a plenary session of the DPR was not a violation of the code of ethics. In the decision letter read by MKD deputy Nazaruddin Dek Gam, it is ruled that Puan only accepted birthday greetings from fellow DPR members.
"Puan Maharani did not have a celebration at the plenary session on September 6, 2022. She only received congratulations from fellow DPR members, as that was her birthday," Nazaruddin said at the MKD room, Tuesday, September 13.
Nazaruddin said that after some verifying and investigating, the MKD did not find evidence of an ethics violation. Therefore, the MKD decided that the complaint against Puan will not be followed up.
On Monday, September 12, Joko Priyoski, a former 98 activist, filed a complaint against Puan to the MKD because of a video that showed House members singing Happy Birthday while clapping on September 6. The video went viral as the event happened when outside the Parliament building people were protesting against the fuel price hike.
Joko said it was inappropriate for Puan to "create euphoria" inside the building instead of receiving the protesters. He demanded Puan apologize to the public.
