TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin has encouraged residents to maintain a healthy life through daily exercise and pushed for cross-ministerial and cross-institutional collaboration to achieve the goal.

"We will invigorate our sporting spirit, and there will be no day without exercise," the vice president stated during a press conference after opening the 2022 National Sports Day Commemoration Ceremony at the Batakan Stadium, Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, Friday (September 9).

Amin, who concurrently serves as chair of the Grand Design of National Sports (DBON) Central Coordination Team, encouraged ministries, government institutions, as well as regional authorities to promote sports.

"Regional authorities must also set aside some of their budget for sports (development) and promoting sports in regions," he noted.

The vice president said that with the DBON, the government is seeking to develop a national sports ecosystem through sports science.

"The first goal is (to achieve) physical freshness and fitness, and the ultimate goal is (sporting) achievements. We want to develop this ecosystem with scientific approaches, so we decided to develop a sports science centre," Amin expounded.

Through the ecosystem, the government could screen, evaluate, and improve ministries, institutions, or regional authorities lacking in sports development.

"We will promote national sports according to our plan to realize the DBON targets. Our ultimate goal is to achieve global-level sporting achievements," the vice president remarked.

Meanwhile, Youth and Sports Minister Zainudin Amali said that cabinet ministers and heads of national institutions formed the DBON Central Coordination Team chaired by the vice president.

"At the provincial level, the chair will be the governor and (the team will consist of) relevant regional authorities, likewise with the city and district level," Amali remarked.

He revealed that this year's National Sports Day themed, "Together Create Champions," is an effort to promote and enhance collaboration among relevant authorities.

"(Sports development) is not possible if it is being worked (upon) only by the central government, provincial authority, or the city or district authority. That is why the vice president is directly presiding over the coordination team to ensure that all aspects will proceed smoothly according to the DBON targets," the minister remarked.
