TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Maritime and Investment Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said that various international events had contributed to the country's economy with multiplying effects. The MotoGP that took place in Lombok, for example, generated Rp606 billion, he said.
"The MotoGP in last February contributed a multilayer effect on the local economy for a value of Rp606 billion," Luhut said when speaking at the Investment Forum of 5 Super Priority Destinations in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara on Friday, September 9, which he joined virtually.
At the time, he said, the huge crowds of some 100,000 people boosted hotels' occupancy rates.
Therefore, Luhut said, the government needs to optimize development in the tourism sector, particularly in terms of accessibility, amenities and attractions. The source of the funds does not only rely on state and regional budgets but also on investments.
"Of course, it requires investment, both domestic and foreign," he said.
As of Q1/2022, actualized investments in the tourism and creative economy sectors have reached Rp5.31 trillion. Luhut he asked the Minister of Investment to maintain investors' trust and make it easier for them to invest, while still paying attention to the environment and local wisdom.
"Fast-track the licensing process and provide investment incentives," Luhut remarked.
