Pertamina to Limit Pertalite Distribution

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned gas and oil company Pertamina planned to limit the distribution of subsidized fuel, Pertalite. The government thus will revise Presidential Regulation (Perpres) No. 191 of 2014 concerning the supply, distribution, and retail selling price of fuel.
“The consumption of Pertalite is not yet regulated in the Perpres so it must be revised,” said the company’s president director Nicke Widyawati during a hearing with the House of Representatives' (DPR) Commission VI at the DPR Building, Jakarta, on Thursday, September 8, 2022.
Nicke said the majority of buyers of the 90-octane fuel are the rich or the upper middle class. Only 20 percent of the subsidized fuel is consumed by the poor.
Besides, four-wheeled vehicles consumed the most or 70 percent of the total quota in 2022, up to 20.35 million kiloliters per year. Meanwhile, the average transaction per car is 23.5 liters per day.
Two-wheeled vehicles only consumed 8.72 kiloliters of Pertalite per year or 30 percent of the 2022 quota of 29 million kiloliters. The average motorcycle transaction is 2.5 liters per day. “Of the figure, personal motorbikes consume 97.8 percent, while online ojek (motorcycle taxi) consume 2.2 percent,” Nicke outlined.
