4.2-M Earthquake Hits Pangandaran Regency

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A tectonic earthquake with a magnitude of 4.2 hit Pangandaran Regency in West Java, Thursday, September 8, at 10:25 West Indonesia Time. According to the Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the source of the earthquake was at sea.
The BMKG did not report a tsunami.
The epicenter was located at 8.2 South Latitude and 108.24 East Longitude, 62 kilometers southwest of the Pangandaran Regency at a depth of 35 kilometers, making it a shallow earthquake.
"The earthquake was caused by underwater fault activity," the head of the BMKG Region II Tangerang, Hartanto, said in a written statement, Thursday, September 8.
So far there have been no reports of damage to buildings as a result of the earthquake. As of 10:48, there were no reports of aftershocks.
