Six Soldiers Named Suspects in Papua Mutilation Case

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Commander of the Army's Military Police Lt. Gen. Chandra W. Sukotjo stated that six soldiers were named suspects in the mutilation case of two civilians in Pigapu Village, East Mimika, Papua.
“Yes, we have named them suspects,” said Chandra when asked by reporters in Jakarta, Monday, August 29, 2022.
He said the Military Police of the XVII/Cenderawasih Military Command had already carried out legal proceedings against the six soldiers. “The Army's Military Police have sent a team of investigators to assist the Military Command,” Chandra added.
The perpetrators from civilians have also been handled by the police. As for the motives, Chandra said the investigation is still underway.
Indonesian Military Commander Gen. Andika Perkasa and the Army Chief of Staff Gen. Dudung Abdurachman have ordered the Army's Military Police to thoroughly investigate the case which allegedly involves six soldiers.
On August 27, mutilated bodies were found in Pigapu-Logopon Village, Mimika Regency, Papua. Head of the Army's Information Service Brig. Gen. Tatang Subarna said the Cenderawasih Military Command in Mimika had arrested the suspects and continued to cooperate with the Mimika Police to uncover the case.
