TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi will inaugurate the first segment of the Makassar-Parepare Train project at the end of October. The train, a national strategic project, will connect Barru Station with Marros Station with a 71-kilometer railway.
The South Sulawesi Railway Management Center said that the plan for Jokowi to inaugurate the railway line had been discussed in several meetings with the Minister of Transportation, Budi Karya Sumadi and the ministry's Director General of Railways.
Hasbudi, head of administration of the Railway Management Center confirmed it. Speaking on Friday, August 26, 2022, Hasbudi said that he could not confirm the exact date of the inauguration, as the field work is still underway.
Previously, the South Sulawesi Railway Management Center head, Andi Amanna Gappa, said he was optimistic that the railway line construction was on track and will be ready by October 2022.
