TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Wednesday met with the 35 enterprises from the United States under the U.S.-ASEAN Business Council at the State Palace in Jakarta. In the meeting, they pledged commitment to increasing partnerships with Indonesia.

"There were various types of business clients in the fields of energy, digital transformation, health, tourism, and so on," said Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi who attended the meeting on Wednesday, August 24.

Retno said that representatives of the American company actually visit Indonesia every year, but were lately hampered by the pandemic. "Indonesia is the only country they visited this time," he said.

Before the guests, President Jokowi asserted that one of Indonesia's commitments is to create a better investment climate. He also explained Indonesi's potential in the fields of trade, and manufacturing, to the development of downstream industries.

Furthermore, Jokowi responded and commented on the three sectors that are the main interests of the business group, which are healthcare, energy transition, and technology partnership.

Meanwhile, when asked about the arrival of members of the US-ASEAN Business Council and its possible link to the government’s ambitious megaproject in the New Capital City (IKN) construction, Minister Retno Marsudi only said that the focal point of the meeting discussed healthcare, digital transformation, and energy transition.
