TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Hang Nadim Airport in Batam is set to introduce an inaugural chartered international flight from Korea to Batam that is planned to be opened in October. It is aimed to increase tourist visits to Batam City.
Airland Marketing Senior Manager of Batam Hang Nadim International Airport, I Wayan Wijana, said that one of their targets is to increase international flight traffic.
"In addition, [we're] adding international flight routes, one of which we are currently preparing is flights from Korea to Batam," said Wayan on Tuesday, August 16.
Not only Korea-Batam but they are also preparing to open flights to other Asian countries, namely China, Vietnam, Thailand, and Kuala Lumpur, Wayan went on. It is hoped that the collaboration between Batam's Hang Nadim International Airport and the Batam City Culture and Tourism Office will facilitate and launch flights for this new route.
"We have started coordinating with Incheon Airport,” said Wayan. “This morning with the marketing director, we held a meeting with the Vietnamese airport regarding flights in Vietnam that are opening a new route to Batam.”
The number of tourists visiting Batam City continues to increase every month as the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) Batam chapter released data suggesting that there were 39,671 visits in June. This number increased significantly by 136.69 percent compared to May 2022 at 16,761 visits.
