TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo in an internal video conference on Thursday said that the handling of the alleged premeditated murder case incriminating the former Internal Affairs chief Ferdy Sambo helped build a positive image of the police institution. The case is handled under a special team formed by the police chief.
In the initial wake of the incident, the public perception of the police institution dwindled as questions of a cover-up emerged. He asserted that the special team led by police deputy chief commissioner general Gatot Eddy Pramono will remain transparent in solving this case that captured the public’s attention.
"Of course, there are still some activities that we are currently carrying out related to the case, and this is a gamble for the National Police institution, a gamble on the dignity of the Police," said Listyo Sigit in a video conference to his entire staff on August 19.
“Nothing will be covered up and we will reveal everything factually and the truth. This is what we are holding onto,” Sigit asserted.
The police were under the spotlight when the initial case of Brigadier J's murder surfaced - who is Ferdy Sambo’s personal aide. The reason is that many people consider the initial police version of the story did not add up, which eventually turned out to be a false narrative from Sambo.
