TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bank Indonesia warns foreign travelers to exchange currency in authorized money changer services. This was stated following the increase in tourist visits to the Bali Island.
"It can be identified through the signboard showing that it is an 'Authorized Money Changer' followed by the name of the business," said Bali head branch of Bank Indonesia (KPwBI), Trisno Nugroho, in Denpasar, Wednesday, August 17.
Trisno said that money changer service would display the logo or certificate issued by the central bank. The logo contains QR code that has the information on the identity or permit of the money changer service.
Bank Indonesia has already pushed the travelers to do a reservation before exchanging their money, which can be done online through Authorizedmoneychanger.id site.
The site also shows the locations of licensed money changer services and the exchange rate. The Indonesian central bank collaborates with the Association of Foreign Exchange Traders (APVA) Bali chapter in setting the website.
"We hope that this website can be one of the media to prevent or reduce unauthorized money changers that may harm the foreign tourists and the locals, as well as pose the potential to damage the image of Bali tourism," said Trisno.
He went on to say that transacting at authorized money changer will save travelers from the risk of fraud and crime. In addition, tourists can avoid the circulation of counterfeit or damaged money. "Never be tempted by the high rates offered by unlicensed money changers," said Trisno.
