TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission or KPK has decided to extend the detention period of Mardani Maming, former Regent of Tanah Bumbu. Mardani, a bribery suspect who had been on the run, will have to spend 40 days longer in detention.
"The investigative team has extended the detention period for suspect [Mardani Maming] for 40 more days starting from August 17, 2022 to September 25, 2022 at the KPK Detention Center at Pomdam Jaya Guntur," KPK acting spokesman Ali Fikri said in Jakarta, Tuesday, August 16.
Ali said that the extension was necessary as investigators need more time to complete Mardani's case file.
"The summons of various witnesses is still being carried out in order to complete the evidence that the KPK currently has," Ali said.
Mardani H Maming is a suspect for allegedly taking bribes from a coal-business tycoon in a mining-permit-transfer deal in Tanah Bumbu Regency, South Kalimantan. Mardani, who had previously been declared a fugitive, surrendered himself to the KPK on July 28, 2022. At that time, Mardani was immediately detained for 20 days.
The KPK suspects that Mardani received money in the form of cash or account transfers between 2014 and 2020. The total amount is around Rp104.3 billion.
