TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Commission for Human Rights (Komnas HAM) announced that former police internal affairs chief Ferdy Sambo had confessed to being the main actor in the murder of his own Aide, Brigadier Nofriansyah Yosua Hutabarat or Brigadier J. Sambo's confession came after he was interrogated by the Komnas HAM at the Police Mobile Brigade (Brimob) headquarters on Friday afternoon, August 12, 2022.
"We [interrogated him] in one special room. He admitted to being the main actor in this incident," said Komnas HAM chairperson Ahmad Taufan Damanik on Friday, August 12, 2022.
Moreover, Ahmad said that Sambo admitted to manipulating and distorting information regarding the deadly incident to make it seem as if Brigadier J died because of a shootout. Damanik said Ferdy Sambo apologized to the commission and the general public for his actions in trying to cover up his murder scheme.
"He admitted that the incident was his own plan and that he is guilty of his actions," Ahmad said.
The Special Team formed by the National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo had previously named four suspects in the murder of Brigadier Joshua, comprising Ferdy Sambo, Bharada E or Richard Eliezer Pudihang Lumiu, Brigadier Ricky Rizal, and KM Kuwat who is the driver of Ferdy Sambo's wife, Putri Chandrawati.
The former internal affairs chief Ferdy Sambo now faces multiple charges that face him with a maximum sentence of the death penalty, life imprisonment, and 20 years in prison.
