TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A 5.9-magnitude earthquake struck off Indonesia's eastern province of Maluku on Tuesday, August 9, the meteorology, climatology and geophysics agency (BMKG) reported.
The quake hit at 19:59 local time, with the epicenter at 189 km northwest of Tanimbar Islands, Maluku Tenggara Barat district, and the depth at 176 km under the seabed, the agency said.
Through its official Twitter account, BMKG reported that the tremor was felt at level III-IV of the MMI scale in Saumlaki, at level III in Dobo, and at a weaker level in Sorong and Kaimana, or at level II-III in the MMI scale.
The earthquake did not have the potential to trigger a tsunami, BMKG remarked.
