TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Communications and Information (Kominfo) Minister Johnny G. Plate said 9,414 online platforms have registered as electronic system providers or PSE and are operating in Indonesia. They are managed by 5,600 PSE, both local and international.
“This includes PayPal. So the access is open and the public can use it,” he said at his office, Central Jakarta, Friday, August 5, 2022.
Johnny reminded that PSE, which has obtained legalization, must carry out its duties and obligations, such as protecting the personal data of its users in the country.
Johnny said Kominfo will conduct supervision and he hoped there won’t be any data leaks due to cyber attacks in the future. Moreover, users’ personal data are stored in the PSE. “Not at Kominfo,” he underlined.
On behalf of the people, Johnny went on, Kominfo asked PSE to maintain and test the feasibility of its system to anticipate data leaks.
The NasDem Party Secretary-General also ensured that Kominfo could not access the personal data of PSE users, denying the issue that the mandatory PSE registration violates the privacy rights of platform users.
“So, on behalf of the community and of course for the benefit of the community, Kominfo is here to ensure that the PSE provides protection for people's personal data,” said Johnny.
