ASEAN Para Games 2022 Day 3 Recap; Indonesia Leads with 15 Gold

2 August 2022 07:38 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian para-athletes, upon entering the third day of the ASEAN Para Games 2022, on Tuesday, August 2, managed to temporarily lead the medal standings with 34 medals and 15 of them being gold medals. Indonesia leads Thailand and Vietnam, ranked second and third with 9 gold medals each.

Indonesian para-athletes on August 1 collected most of the gold from Para-swimming, para-athlete, para-powerlifting, and para-table tennis, among those who contributed many medals. The medals were partially obtained but have not been logged officially as the ceremony has not been conducted.

The Indonesian para-swimming team collected seven gold medals on the first day of this sport's competition at the 2022 ASEAN Para Games at Jatidiri Stadium, Semarang, Monday.

Aris Wibawa won the first gold medal in the men's 100-meter SB7 breaststroke. Rino Saputra won the second gold in the men's 100-meter freestyle number S9.

Other gold medals were presented by Zaki Zulkarnain (100 meters freestyle men's S8), Tangklisan Steven Sualang (50 meters backstroke men's S10), Meliana Ratih Pratama (50 meters backstroke), the 4x100 meter mixed style relay team 49 points, and the 4x100 relay team Freestyle meters 34 points.

Indonesian Para-Swimming Coach Coordinator Dimin said that on the first day he was actually aiming for 10 medals, but three numbers turned out to be missed. "Today's total gains are seven gold (medals), nine silver medals, and seven bronze medals," said Dimin.

Para-athletics contributed 11 gold medals, but only two were officially awarded. The gain exceeded the coach's initial target of 10 gold medals, said Indonesian athletics coach Slamet Widodo. "The hope is that Indonesia will become the overall champion and athletics will become a sport that contributes as many medals as possible. Today it has been running, thank God it is on target," said Slamet.

The para-table tennis branch temporarily contributed six gold and four silver medals. NPC Indonesia Table Tennis Coach Bayu Widihapsara Purba said the gold medals were presented by Hamidah and Suwarti from the women's team in the TT8 class and Sella Dwi Radayana, Jeje Juliyani, and Aminah from the TT10 class.

In addition, gold was also obtained from the men's team through Komet Akbar and David Yakob from the TT10 class. Other gold came from Kusnanto, Supriatna Gumilar, Hilmi Hazizi, and Aman Suratman from class TT9, Banyu Tri Mulyo, M Rian Prahasta, and Leo Nardo Aritonang from class TT8, and the men's team TT4.

Another sporting branch that also contributed to gold was para-powerlifting with three gold medals. The medal winners are Eneng Paridah, Ni Nengah Widiasih, and Rani Puji Astuti.
