TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Statistics Indonesia (BPS) recorded foreign tourist arrivals to Indonesia in June 2022 reached 345.44 thousand, skyrocketing by virtually 2,000 percent or 1,973.96 percent to be exact from June 2021.

“If compared to the previous month, foreign tourist arrivals in June 2022 also saw an increase by 62.69 percent,” said BPS Head Margo Yuwono in a press conference in his office on Monday, August 1, 2022.

Foreign tourist arrivals through the nation’s main entrances from January-June 2022 stood at 743.21 thousand, soaring by 929.66 percent compared to those in the same period of 2021.

The room occupancy rate (TPK) of star hotels in June 2022, meanwhile, hit 50.28 percent or 11.73 points in increase compared to the previous month. Compared to May, the TPK in June 2022 also rose by 0.43 point.

The TPK of non-star hotels in June 2022 was also up by 3.80 points to 23.92 percent. “Compared to the previous month, the TPK of non-star hotels in June 2022 dropped 0.83 percent.”

Late last year, the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry projected foreign tourist arrivals in 2022 would be in the neighborhood of 1.8-3.6 million. These figures were much lower than the target in a normal period prior to the COVID-19 pandemic era.
