TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Low-cost carrier Batik Air has officially opened a new international flight connecting North Sumatra to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The round-trip flights are served via Kualanamu International Airport in Medan to Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
“The inaugural flight is inaugurated on Monday, July 25, 2022,” said the airline’s spokesman Danang Mandala Prihantoro in Jakarta, Tuesday, July 26.
He said the subsidiary of Lion Air Group operated Boeing 737-800NG aircraft with 12 business class seats and 156 economy class seats. “This is a modern and new generation fleet sent from aircraft manufacturers,” Danang added.
The airline management hoped that the new flight will provide a new option to fly from Indonesia to Kuala Lumpur other than flights from Jakarta-Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten (CGK). Besides, this flight will ease people’s mobility either for travel or business purposes.
Danang also said the flight will support regions to develop connectivity. “We are optimistic that it will strengthen the competitiveness of global trade, business, and tourism potentials faster.”
The Kualanamu-Kuala Lumpur flight route, he went on, was predicted to be one of the drivers of accelerating regional economic recovery in the Southeast Asia region.
