TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Central Jakarta city administration stated that the sidewalk of Jalan Tanjung Karang, Dukuh Atas MRT Station area is a public facility, not a venue for Citayam Fashion Week.
The area has recently gone viral and is better known as the Citayam Fashion Week area. Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan along with his guests from the European Union even tried walking across the zebra cross which is deemed as the runway. Earlier, West Java Governor also tried the catwalk.
Central Jakarta Deputy Mayor Irwandi asked SCBD teenagers showing off their creations in the area to pay attention to road users. SCBD stands for Sudirman, Citayam, Bojonggede, and Depok, a name for young people who often hang out in the area. But now, people from other regions crowd the public space. Professional models also perform in the street fashion week.
“The sidewalk is for pedestrians. Don’t hold a ‘catwalk’ event in zebra cross. Let’s help other road users. It’s not only [SCBD teenagers] who use the area, other road users may be disturbed,” said Irwandi as quoted from Antara, Thursday, July 21, 2022.
Irwandi emphasized that Dukuh Atas MRT Station and Kendal Tunnel areas are third spaces for public interaction. However, he encouraged teenagers gathering in the area to comply with the health protocols, not make crowds, and not sleep until morning in the pedestrian area.
The Central Jakarta administration deployed dozens of Satpol PP or public order agency officers to monitor and ensure that the youth gathering in Dukuh Atas leaves the area by 22:00 WIB.
“We have assigned them (Satpol PP) for surveillance that at 10 p.m. they are no longer at the location. No one is allowed to sleep there, let alone COVID-19 is on the rise again,” said Irwandi.
