TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno in a written statement on Wednesday asserts that women have a strategic role in Indonesia’s tourism as he claims roughly 55 percent of those in the tourism sector in the country are women.
He believes putting forth women's empowerment will be the main concern in reigniting the economy and opening up more job opportunities.
"We must prioritize empowering women and gender equality. So we must provide opportunities and empowerment for great and independent women," said Sandiaga while attending the "Friendly Dialogue and Networking: Women Empowerment on Economy and Tourism (W20 Summit)" at The Kaldera, Toba, North Sumatra, Wednesday, July 20.
In addition, Sandiaga said that he would collect data on the involvement of women in the creative and creative sectors that will enable the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy to formulate policies that help strengthen women's participation in the development of the creative and creative sector.
In a separate event at the Simalungun Regency on Tuesday, Sandiaga Uno openly expressed his gratitude for women’s role in the development of Indonesia’s post-coronavirus tourism and creative economy industry.
