BNN Arrests Military, Police Personnel Involved in Illegal Drugs Smuggling

14 July 2022 14:29 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe National Narcotics Agency or BNN arrested three personnel of the Indonesian Military (TNI) and one member of the National Police who were involved in smuggling methamphetamine and marijuana.

The agency’s deputy for illegal drug eradication, Kenedy, explained that a policeman identified as E was nabbed along with a civilian, Y, in Dumai of Riau on Friday, July 8, 2022.

“Both of them are secured in different places, but still in the same hotel area in Dumai, Riau," said Kenedy at the Cawang BNN Building, East Jakarta, Thursday, July 14, 2022.

E carried 52.90 kilograms of crystal meth wrapped in green Chinese tea packaging and camouflaged in a cardboard box filled with rambutan.

“It was the PALAI international syndicate network sent from Sungai Pelek Selangor, Malaysia, to Dumai Seaport, and was planned to be brought to Pekanbaru, Riau,” Kenedy explained.

Meanwhile, the arrests of three military soldiers were carried out in Pesanggrahan, South Jakarta on Tuesday, July 5, 2022. The three suspects, MS, BH, and J, helped a civilian identified as L to smuggle 61.10 kilograms of marijuana from Aceh to Jakarta.

Kenedy explained that the marijuana was packaged in 67 plastic wrappers and sent to Jakarta using three large boxes. L who worked as the head of the shipping expedition warehouse would pass the illegal drugs to the three soldiers.

The suspects were charged with Article 114 (2) in conjunction with Article 132 (2), Article 112 (2) in conjunction with Article 132 (2), and Article 111 (2) in conjunction with Article 132 (2) of the Narcotics Law No. 35 of 2009. They faced a maximum penalty of death or life imprisonment.

Kenedy also said TNI and Polri members were still undergoing investigation in their respective institutions for their involvement in smuggling methamphetamine and marijuana.
