Covid-19 Positivity Rate in Indonesia Above WHO Standard

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The weekly positivity rate of Covid-19 cases in Indonesia surpassed the standard set by WHO of 5 percent. The positivity rate is the number of confirmed positive cases among the number of tested specimens.

“There's an increase in weekly positivity rate at the second week of July at 5.12 percent,” said the coordinator of expert team and spokesperson of national Covid task force, Wiku Adisasmito, on Wednesday, July 13.

As for the daily caseload, the number of reported positive cases on Wednesday was 3,822. This maintained the recent increasing trend, as previously on Tusday, the additional positive cases were reported to be at 3,361 cases.

On that day, Wiku explained, Indonesia for the first time reported another daily Covid-19 cases to be over 3,000. This number increased six times if compared to last month's additional cases on June 12, when it saw 551 daily cases.

The active Covid-19 cases also reached 20,000 on same day, July 12. This increased four times from last month's active cases at around 4,000. “We have to pay attention to the increase in active and positive cases as this means that the transmission rate among the public has increased again,” said Wiku.

Wiku said that fortunately, the death toll did not see a significant increase. The task force recorded eight and 12 deaths related to Covid, as per Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively.
