TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) Central Executive Board’s head of the election campaign, Bambang Wuryanto or Bambang Pacul, expressed optimism that his party could get a hat-trick –winning the election three times in a row– in the 2024 General Election albeit without ‘selling’ Joko Widodo or Jokowi.
He said the factor of Jokowi certainly influenced the votes for PDIP in the past two elections. However, he claimed the current ruling party had never depended on the figures of one or two people.
The key to the party’s victory, he opined, depended on the consolidation of the organization. The coattail effect, which is a tendency for a popular figure to attract votes, was deemed not to bring a major impact on the party.
“I have studied the effect in Chili and Brazil. The coattail effect is about 3.4-6.5 percent. The coattail effect of Pak Jokowi for PDIP was 4 percent. It’s a small number,” said Bambang at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta on Tuesday, July 12, 2022.
“But 2024 will indeed be more difficult because there are no incumbents who support us,” he added.
Bambang also said that PDIP had moved quickly to consolidate the party's power from now on. He mentioned that the party’s infrastructure in ring 1 areas is ready.
