TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The East Java police in the early hours of Friday, July 8, arrested MSAT (42) who is the son of a local renowned religious figure at the Siddiqiyyah Islamic Boarding School (Pesantren) in Jombang who allegedly molested multiple female students at the school.
This case took national headlines as prior to his arrest, police were faced with strong resistance from a large number of local residents who attempted to foil the arrest.
MSAT’s arrest was confirmed by the East Java Police spokesperson Sr. Comsr. Dirmanto at the police headquarters on Friday. “[The suspect is] already at the East Java Police headquarters and was immediately detained,” he said.
The suspect will be handed over to the local high prosecutor’s office. Police would not confirm when the official police press release will take place.
Reports suggest the suspected sexual abuser handed himself over to the police and is now detained at the Surabaya Medaeng jail in Sidoarjo before facing other legal procedures.
