TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan inaugurated the construction project of an underground pedestrian crossing connecting the Thamrin Nine UOB building and MRT BNI Dukuh Atas Station. He said it will be a historic project as it is the first pedestrian tunnel in Jakarta and Indonesia.
MRT passengers from Dukuh Atas BNI station can later pass through the tunnel to reach buildings around the station, including Thamrin Nine UOB.
“This is the future. Later, all MRT stations that are under construction will be designed to have a connecting corridor to the surrounding buildings,” said Anies at a press conference at the Thamrin Nine Complex, Central Jakarta, Thursday, July 7, 2022.
The interconnection route between a station and buildings in its vicinity, said Anies, is level two integration. Level one integration is the integration between mass transport, such as MRT and Transjakarta, and Commuter Lines.
The former minister of education and culture explained that this facility will attract people to shift from private vehicles to public transportation because they can easily reach their workplaces.
“This is what we call a new history in Jakarta, in Indonesia. This is the first facility that ever exists [in Jakarta and Indonesia]. We will develop more in the future,” said Anies Baswedan.
