Peak of Omicron BA.4, BA.5 Cases in Greater Jakarta Already Passed: Govt

6 July 2022 20:39 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaJakarta Greater Area has already passed the peak cases of Omicron BA.4 and BA.5, said the Home Affairs Ministry's director-general for regional administration development Safrizal ZA today, July 6.

This is the basis for the government to downgrade back the scale of the COVID-19 public mobility restrictions or PPKM in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek) to level 1.

“In the past week, we have observed a sloping trend which indicates that Jabodetabek has passed the peak,” said Safrizal in a written statement on Wednesday, July 6, 2022.

Thus, Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian revised the Level 2 PPKM policy which was enacted last Tuesday through the Ministerial Instruction No. 33 of 2022 which stated that Jabodetabek was assigned to Level 2 PPKM from July 5 until August 1, 2022.

Today, July 6, the decision was changed and Jakarta remains at Level 1 PPKM.

The revision is contained in the Home Affairs Ministerial Instruction No. 35 of 2022 concerning COVID-19 PPKM in the Java and Bali Regions. This policy applies to the Jakarta agglomeration area.

As reported previously on Sunday, June 26, Health Minister Budi Gunadi predicted that the peak cases of Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 would possibly occur in 30 days after the discovery of the first case, which was in the second and third weeks of July 2022.
