TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Vice President Ma'ruf Amin and his wife, Wury Estu Handayani, flew to Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, July 5, to perform hajj.
“The Vice President received an invitation from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to carry out the hajj pilgrimage. It’s a grand pilgrimage this year that [the wukuf procession in] Arafah falls on Friday. And inshallah, the Vice President and his entourage will carry out the hajj procession,” said the VP spokesman Masduki Baidlowi in a written statement.
Masduki said that King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud's invitation for the Indonesian VP was conveyed through the Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Indonesia Esam A. Abid Althagafi.
“This invitation was delivered by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on June 9, which at that time, the Ambassador of Saudi Arabia came to the residence of the Vice President,” he added.
When delivering the invitation, Ambassador Esam reported the readiness of Saudi Arabia in organizing the hajj pilgrimage and the COVID-19 conditions in the country. “Because the situation is safe, Vice President Ma'ruf Amin was invited by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to carry out this pilgrimage. Inshallah, the VP will perform the hajj for a week,” said Masduki.
