Luhut: Indonesia's COVID-19 Situation Better than Other Countries

5 July 2022 17:15 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Pandjaitan stated that Indonesia’s COVID-19 situation is better than other countries that are facing a significant surge in positive cases.

“The good news is that Indonesia occupies the lowest position in daily cases per the population when compared to several other neighboring countries,” said Luhut in an official statement, Monday, July 4, 2022.

Countries that have logged a spike in infections include France, Italy, and Germany. A significant case hike also occurred in the neighboring country, Singapore.

Thus, Luhut who is also the coordinator for the enforcement of public mobility restrictions or PPKM said the government decided to extend the PPKM policy in Java-Bali regions until an undetermined time. All decisions will follow the results of periodic evaluations led by the President.

“So from the bottom of my heart, I appeal to people who have not received a complete vaccination course up to a booster shot to immediately visit existing vaccination centers,” said Luhut. “This is for the common good in tackling the ongoing pandemic and economic recovery.”

Luhut also ensured that the vaccine booster shot will be set as a mandatory requirement for public mobility in the next two weeks at the latest. This was based on the results of the limited cabinet meeting chaired by President Joko Widodo or Jokowi. The new policy will be stipulated in the task force’s regulations and other derivative regulations.
