TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Monday has decided to include third-dose vaccinations or booster shots as a requirement to conduct mass-public activities and public transportation rides.
This was announced by the Coordinating Minister of Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto at the Presidential Palace on July 4 following a limited meeting with the President regarding the Public Activity Restriction (PPKM).
“The President’s instruction includes providing third dose vaccination centers in airports,” he said.
Airlangga said the Covid-19 Task Force had also issued a circular for crowd activities to include proof of vaccine booster shots while regarding crowd permits, he added, Jokowi also urged people to push the use of the PeduliLindungi app.
"We should not let our guards down because some places have slacked behind, so this has to be improved again because we are reminded that the number of cases in some countries is still high, which means the pandemic isn't over yet," said Airlangga.
In the meeting, President Jokowi also called for state officials to expand vaccination coverage outside of the two most populated islands in Indonesia; Java and Bali. Second-dose vaccinations in Maluku, Papua, and West Papua currently remain under 50 percent while at a national scale, booster vaccinations on average are below 20 percent.
