TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The government has decided to raise electricity tariffs starting tomorrow or as of July 1, 2022. However, the tariff hike is not applied to all 37 customer groups of state power company PLN.
The Energy Ministry and PLN have set tariff increases for 5 categories of customers: households 3,500 VA and above (R2 and R3) and government groups (P1, P2, and P3).
Business and industrial customers, including subsidized customers, are not subject to the tariff hike.
The new tariffs are valid from July to September 2022.
The Energy Ministry's director-general of electricity, Rida Mulyana, said in a press conference on July 13 that it has been 5 years since the government last adjusted electricity rates, which was in 2017, although energy commodity prices continued to rise.
Rida said the electricity rates' increase is between 17.64 and 36.61 percent. It will follow the quarterly tariff adjustment mechanism for non-subsidized customers, taking into account a number of factors such as the currency rate and coal price.
