TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Teluknaga Police arrested three violent begal or street robbers who operated in the Teluknaga, Tangerang Regency, Banten. The three young men, AJ (19), D (20) and MH (18), were captured Wednesday, June 29, at around 19:00.
They operated using motorcycles and used sickles to threaten victims when committing their crimes. "The suspects pointed a sickle at the victims," Tangerang Metro Police chief Sr. Comr. Zain Dwi Nugroho said on Thursday, June 30.
The begals, Zain said, stole phones from their victims and didn't think twice about hurting their victims using the sharp weapons.
At least three people have reported being robbed with violence in April and June this year and in August 2021. Two of the victims sustained slash wounds.
Based on their reports, the police searched for the perpetrators and arrested them on Wednesday night. To the police, the begals admitted to have robbed their victims' phone and slashed them with sickles.
"The three suspects are currently being detained, along with evidence, at the Teluknaga Police for further investigation," Zain said.
