TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A pastor was shot by an unknown person at his own home in a village of Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra. Pastor Fernando Tambunan received a shot to his chest while sitting on the terrace at around 21:30, Monday night, June 27.
Sr. Comr. Hadi Wahyudi, PR chief of the North Sumatra Police Department, confirmed the incident and said the police had launched an investigation.
"A joint team of the Deli Serdang Precinct and the North Sumatra PD are investigating the incident. No suspect has been detained yet," he told Tempo on Tuesday, June 28.
Meanwhile, the Deli Serdang Police Crimes Unit chief, Comr. I Kadek Cahyadi, said they cannot determine the type of firearm used by the shooter yet. "According to field investigation results, local residents did not hear gunshots last night," he said.
A forensics team is still investigating the crime scene. Witnesses have also been questioned. The police are now waiting for the result of Pastor Fernando's surgery to determine the type of firearm used to shoot him.
Meanwhile, Pastor Daniel Harahap, head of the Marturia Protestant Christian Community (HKBP), denied reports that Pastor Fernando Tambunan is an HKBP pastor. According to the information he received, Pastor Fernando is pastor at the Assemblies of God Church (GSJA).
