TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A multiple-vehicle collision occurred on the Purbaleunyi toll road or KM 92 of Cipularang toll road on Sunday night, June 26, 2022. Head of the Highway Patrol (PJR) of Cipularang Toll Road Denny Catur explained the chronology of the accident which involved 17 vehicles.
The accident began when a bus, Laju Prima with a license plate B 7602 XA, from Bandung to Jakarta hit several vehicles in front of it at 20:20 local time. “It is suspected that the Laju Prima bus experienced a brake failure,” said Denny in a written statement on Monday, June 27, 2022.
The crash involved a number of vehicles because of heavy traffic at that time. “Since it was Sunday, there was usually an increase in traffic from Bandung to Jakarta,” Denny added.
As a result, three people were severely injured and 16 others suffered minor injuries. The victims were immediately rushed to Abdul Radjak Hospital in Purwakarta.
At 01:17 local time, the location was confirmed to be clean. Traffic in the area returned to normal after a long heavy traffic jam caused by the crash. The vehicles involved in the accident were taken to the Jatiluhur Crane Pool.
State-owned toll road operator Jasa Marga expressed concern about the accident. Jasamarga Metropolitan Tollroad’s General Manager Representative Office 3, Thomas Dwiatmanto, said the mobile customer service, the highway patrol (PJR), and ambulance officers immediately handled the multiple-vehicle accident, evacuated victims, and arranged the traffic around the scene.
The police and Jasa Marga urged road users to always ensure the condition of their vehicles and their personal health before traveling and to take rest in rest areas when tired or sleepy.
