Earthquake Jolts Bali's Kuta, West Lombok on Sunday evening

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A 4.4 magnitude earthquake rocked areas in Bali and West Nusa Tenggara on Sunday evening, June 26, 2022. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that the quake was centered in the sea, 11 kilometers northeast of south Kuta, and at a depth of 81 kilometers.
It occurred at 19:25 Western Indonesian Time (WIB) and was felt up to level III of the Modified Mercalli Intensity (MMI) scale in Kuta, Nusa Dua, Gianyar, Mataram, and West Lombok. Level III means the tremor is felt by people indoors as if there is the passing of a truck.
On Sunday, the agency also recorded an earthquake in Nabire, Papua. It was measured at 3.5 magnitudes on the Richter scale. Generated in the land, the quake’s shaking was felt weak on level II of the MMI scale.
